Over the last several weeks I have been thinking about Christmas and its meaning. As I did my Christmas shopping, I couldn't help but get a little sad. The meaning of Christmas has gotten so distorted over the years that a lot of folks, including myself, often forget why we really celebrate it. Don't get me wrong, I like to spend time with my family, friends and open presents, but is that the real reason for the season? I often forget that the reason why we celebrate Christmas is because "a savior was born onto us." The reason for celebrating is because Jesus' birth provided a better future for us all. Due to His birth, death, and resurrection, all my sins were forgiven! What a great joy and gift! In the mist of all the shopping, decorating, and gathering with friends, I pray that the "real" meaning of Christmas would be focused back to our Savior and all that He has done.
